ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS


Admission requirements

   I.        three tracks for ba holders
Applicants to our graduate program can follow one of three tracks to admission. In all tracks, they must fulfill both degree and course requirements.
A.          students with ba in economics
The first track is to have a BA in economics and fulfill any remaining courses which the student may not have taken during his undergraduate studies.
B.          students with ba (bsc) in math, stat & physical sciences, engineering and it
The second track is available for non-economics graduates. students with a BA in mathematics, mathematic and applied statistics, physical sciences, engineering and information technology can be admitted conditionally, provided they complete the required upper division courses in economics, quantitative methods and two of economics electives, during and/or in parallel with their pursuing degrees in our program. they can be exempted from any of the above requirements, if they have taken similar courses during their previous studies.
C.          students with ba in other fields
Students with other majors, like law, Shari'ah, and liberal arts, must fulfill all course requirements.
D.         grades
Students applying for admission must have completed all relevant courses with grades of B or better. Their overall and major GPA must be 3.0 out of 4.00 or better for admission to the all degrees in our program.
II.        list of admission course requirements
A.          CREDIT HOURS 
1.  A minimum of 32 credit hours of economics courses
1.1.            At least 16 credit hours in lower and upper division courses.
1.2.           At least 16 credit hours evenly distributed between the following topics.
1.3.           At least 12
B.          Required economics courses
1.  Lower Division
1.1.           Principles of Microeconomics (4 hrs.)
1.2.           Principles of Macroeconomics (4 hrs.)
2.  Upper Division Requirements in economics
2.1.           Intermediate Microeconomics (4 hrs.)
2.2.           Intermediate Macroeconomics (4 hrs.)
C.                 Upper division requirements in quantitative methods
3.  Required courses in quantitative methods:
3.1.           Intro. to applied Statistics and Computer Applications (4 hrs.)
3.2.           Intro. to Econometrics (4 hrs.)
3.3.           Applied Econometrics (4 hrs.)
3.4.           Simulation modeling (4 hrs.)
D.         Economics electives
4.  Economic electives are restricted to the following:
4.1.           Money and banking (4 hrs.)
4.2.           International trade and finance (4 hrs.)
4.3.           Public finance (4 hrs.)
E.          Math Requirements
5.  Math required courses must include:
5.1.           College Algebra
5.2.           Analytical geometry and Calculus
5.3.           Linear algebra
5.4.           Differential calculus
